Dear Parents and Friends,
In our Catholic church year we have now entered the season of Lent.
A season of prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
How will I approach Lent?
I always, but especially during Lent, will try to be a real and authentic leader, to accept and be grateful that God has chosen this path for me, to continue to embrace the community in Granville that I have been called to lead. I know that I belong here and that my vocation is to be the best person I can be for the children, parents, teachers and wider Granville parish community.
I ask you to consider praying for me during this Lent that I have the strength and courage to continue this work with you and for you, that the Holy Spirit guides me in my work. I know that God is with me on this journey helping me to love one another, Jesus is by my side so that I can serve this community.
I will be praying that each family will be better able to know and love our God and accept the life He has chosen for them. We are all here at HTG together because at this time “we belong here”, so let us pray and be together in harmony.
On Wednesday Holy Trinity Primary celebrated mass with our Delany community, what a wonderful experience for our children to be with these students and their teachers. We filled the church to capacity and our children were absolutely perfect we are very proud of our children.
Did you know that Delany College and Holy Trinity Primary share the same motto, LOVE SERVE HOPE It is our intention to be present together with Delany to share many occasions in 2018. (See photos at the end of our newsletter).
Learning More About Lent
- Violet is the colour
- Commences on Ash Wednesday
- Lasts for 40 days, as a reminder that Jesus prayed in the desert for 40 days
- Concludes with Easter triduum Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday
- Calls us to
- Pray for ourselves and each other
- Fast - every person 14 years of age or older must abstain from meat (and items made with meat) on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all the Fridays of Lent. Every person between the age of 18 and 59 (beginning of 60th year) must fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Fasting is not recommended for primary school age children, as they need their food intake to be regular and healthy to assist in growing their mind and body. It could be that children abstain from junk foods throughout lent, for example, do acts of mercy and kindness for others

Kindergarten became young scientists during their exciting Mad About Science incursion! π§ͺπ¬ Our students explored the fascinating world of chemicals and discovered how different substances react when combined. Through fun, hands-on experiments and engaging demonstrations, they made predictions, observed exciting chemical reactions and developed their scientific thinking.

Our Stage 1 students had an amazing day on their excursion to Sydney Zoo! π¦π¨π Throughout the day, our budding wildlife heroes explored the incredible features that help living things survive and thrive. Guided by the knowledgeable zoo educators, students participated in engaging, hands-on activities while discovering real-world examples of wildlife conservation. They learned how animals are perfectly suited to their environments and, most importantly, explored the ways we can all help protect the habitats these amazing creatures call home. It was a fun-filled day of discovery, learning and adventure that inspired our students to become future caretakers of our natural world!

ππ What an incredible celebration of culture and community! Today, our students enjoyed a wonderful Multicultural Day alongside our friends from Delany. The day began with a meaningful Smoking Ceremony, acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the land and setting the tone for a day of respect, learning and celebration. Students experienced a vibrant showcase of cultures through spectacular performances, delicious food stalls from around the world, and opportunities to learn about the rich diversity that makes our communities so special. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success. Celebrating our different cultures reminds us that our diversity is our strength, and together we create a welcoming community where everyone belongs. π

Let there be light! After a couple of weeks of technical issues students had the opportunity to take their theoretical understanding of electrical circuits into their physical hands. Students created series and parallel circuits, conducting power from a battery pack, through wires and lighting a small globe. It was imperative that the circuit be closed for electricity to flow through. Lots of fun was had by all! Well done Year 6!

CSPD students recognised in Refugee Week Creative Competition
Over 125 students from 10 Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD) schools have been recognised for their empathy and powerful storytelling as part of the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) Australia Refugee Week Creative Competition.

This week, Year 2 explored the beautiful story The Boy and the Elephant. As we reflected on how the elephant helped the boy find courage, students thought about what makes them feel brave. They each chose and created an animal that represents bravery, confidence, and strength to them. ππ¦π¦ We loved hearing the thoughtful reasons behind each student's choice and seeing their creativity shine through their artwork. What a wonderful reminder that courage can come in many different forms!

In preparation for the upcoming Voice of Youth presentations, students engaged in a public speaking workshop. Year 6 were challenged to speak confidently using persuasive language on a topic of their choosing. They learnt the importance of a 3 word motto for your audience to remember and carry through. A big thanks to Tim Martin from CAPTIVATE for his public speaking expertise!

During Literacy, students focused on developing their handwriting skills and reading comprehension. They carefully practised correct letter formation, size and spacing, while also applying their comprehension strategies to understand and respond to texts. It was wonderful to see students demonstrating focus, perseverance and pride in their learning. π

Students worked collaboratively in groups to research the four Gospels and deepen their understanding of the New Testament. Through their investigations, they discovered that Matthew, Mark and Luke are known as the Synoptic Gospels because they share many similarities in their accounts of Jesus' life and teachings. They also learned that John's Gospel has a more philosophical and reflective style, focusing on the deeper meaning of Jesus' identity and message. βπ
